The holistic approach of 'swachhata' or cleanliness has root to Indian culture and ethics. Gandhiji once said, "Sanitation is more important than Independence." Being hygienic is not a choice but a necessity and the desire to achieve it led our Prime Minister Narendra Modi to launch this nationwide campaign on the auspicious day of 2 October 2014, the birth anniversary of Gandhiji. The government has aimed to make India clean by 2nd of October 2019 (means 150th birth anniversary of the Mahatma Gandhi) through this campaign.

While a campaign like this has drawn much uproar about its immediate necessity, the government has set targets like eliminating open defecation, building community toilets, spreading social awareness about its usage, eradicating manual scavenging,  quick disposal of solid and liquid waste at both rural and urban level. Under this mission, the government is determined to bring awareness among masses about the direct and indirect impacts on their social and economic life. Many celebrities and private organisations have come up with warm support to this initiative. Afterall a 'swachh' India is hard to fell prey to an epidemic and contagious diseases which in turn can save money. It can also accelerate the tourism as it had a negative impact before. If prospering India is a demand, then it is a small initiative.

Though all these desires and implementations have a far gap and that can only be filled with people's participation towards the evolutionary change. Ultimately, we are the one who lit our public places and only we can mend us.
