The worth of a civilisation can be judged from the status it gives to women. They play four-fold status role sequences starting from daughter, wife, homemaker, mother. Women are praised as the God. Ancient Indian law-maker Manu said, "Where women are honoured there reside the god." For us, women are no ordinary human but sacred being.

From Indus Valley civilisation to today's constantly-changing realm women are always given preference. Nevertheless, there is a huge gap in male-female advancement. Many practices emerged during these periods have forced women to suffer most. Today women are compared to a material being for male gratification and breeding. Female foeticide is stifling. This was not always Indian culture but advent to foreign rulers has altered the status of women significantly. Today they are subjected to regular harassment in every sphere of life.  Women are forced to behave according to male-dominated mindset. On one side we praise them as the deity, on the other side, we subject them to moral policing. From dress-code to ethics they are taught rather decide.

But there has been a steady change in perception of how the society treats women in the last couple of decades. Females are now compared to males. Social and economic upliftment of women has made them self-reliant. Giving women the right to their maternal property is something rejoicing. Only educated women can bring down the burden of our country so literacy is something that they are blossoming. Women workforce are now leading our destiny to safe hand.

This may be least but not the last. To achieve the fate of a prosperous nation, we must keep our effort. Women are human too. So their humanity must not be curbed by male appeasement.
